Utilizing Insurance for Therapy Services
If you would like to use your in-network insurance benefits for therapy with me, please read the information below, which explains some important factors to consider, such as what insurance will and will not cover, so you are an informed participant in your care.
-
If I am an in-network provider with your insurance company, than you may be eligible to have your individual therapy sessions covered by insurance. I am contracted with a company called Headway that takes care of claims and billing. Once you have completed the regular intake forms sent to you by my office, you will need to create an account on Headway, upload your insurance information, and complete some additional paperwork. Once your benefits have been verified and your paperwork is complete, I will begin submitting claims to your insurance company for our appointments.
-
If I am not in-network with your insurance, you may still be able to get some of your therapy costs recouped. You will need to check your out-of-network benefits on your insurance customer portal or Explanation of Benefits to find out if you are eligible for out-of-network benefits. I can provide you with superbills, or detailed statements of our appointments, that you can submit through your insurance portal. I require payment at the time of service for out of network and self-pay appointments.
-
If you have a copay or a deductible to meet before services are covered by your insurance, the amount you owe will be billed to your payment method on file at the time of service. You can learn more about what amount you will be responsible to pay by contacting your customer service representative at your insurance company, or reading through your EOB. This information will also be available in your Headway account, though accuracy can vary depending on communication from your insurance company,

Yes. Insurance requires that your provider give you a clinical diagnosis in order for your sessions to be eligible for coverage. During your first appointment, we will discuss your symptoms, previous diagnoses, family history, relationships, and environment to develop a full picture that informs my diagnostic assessment. In this way, the formulation is a collaborative process where you are considered the expert of your own experience. Any diagnosis I am providing will be discussed with you before it is added to your medical record. I welcome any questions you have regarding this during your free 15-minute intro call or first appointment.
-
Because many of my services are experiential, extended-format, or relational in nature, insurance coverage is currently limited to individual therapy services. All other services are out-of-network and offered on a private-pay basis.
